Blu. Animando nuestros muros. Dresslab. Agosto 2011

Vamos a ignorar el calor, vamos a salir a la calle a pasear, vamos a olvidarnos del aire acondicionado de los museos y aprovechar para ver arte contemporáneo comprometido siguiendo los pasos del artista BLU a través de sus intervenciones urbanas. Prepárense para viajar porque el talento de este italiano se ha exhibido por casi todo el mundo.

Ciudadanos de Bogotá, Noruega, Madrid, Los Ángeles o Lisboa, entre muchos otros, han tenido la oportunidad de toparse con uno de sus murales gigantes y reflexionar ante la realidad concreta en la que Blu pone su foco de atención: la corrupción, la ecología, la violencia, el sistema económico… por desgracia, hay un amplio espectro de injusticias que este artista no tiene ningún reparo en denunciar a través de sus imágenes.

De Blu se cuenta que llegó a imprimir 6000 revistas con sus dibujos y sin ningún otro dato explicativo para después repartirlas gratis en Alemania con el fin de autopromocionarse. Pero si algo ha ayudado de forma especial a la difusión de la obra de este original artista, eso ha sido el acceso a través de internet a los vídeos con las animaciones de sus murales… En ellos, todo en la ciudad es susceptible de transformarse para contarnos historias, sus dibujos aprovechan y se adaptan a las formas de los elementos urbanos y los deshechos y objetos abandonados cobran vida, movimiento y sonoridad gracias a la colaboración de Blu con Andrea Martignoni.

Nunca sabes cuál será la siguiente idea con la que enlazará el guión pero normalmente funciona sorprendiéndote para bien.

Como aquella revista que auto-editó en Alemania, su organizada web sigue careciendo de datos, no se encuentran entrevistas a Blu y no parece muy factible hacerse con una posado del autor, pero su fama sigue creciendo gracias a lo que hace. Como debe ser. 

BLU. Animating our Walls

Let’s ignore the heat, let’s go for a walk on the streets, let’s forget the air conditioning in museums and take the opportunity to see some committed contemporary art following the footsteps of the artist BLU and his urban interventions. Get ready to travel, because this Italian’s talent has been exhibited nearly all over the world.

Citizens in Bogota, Norway, Madrid, Los Angeles or Lisbon, among many others, have had the opportunity to come across one of his giant murals and reflect upon the specific reality on which Blu centres his focus of attention: corruption, the environment, violence, the financial system… unfortunately, there is a broad spectrum of injustice which this artist is not shy to denounce through his images.

The legend says that Blu even printed 6000 magazines of his illustrations with no other form of explanatory detail, to then hand out for free in Germany with the sole purpose of promoting himself. But if anything has especially helped this original artist’s distribution it has been how accessible the internet has made the videos of his animated murals… In them, the whole city is susceptible to transformation in order to tell us stories; his drawings make the most of and adapt themselves to the shapes of urban elements and refuse and abandoned objects come to life, in movement and sound thanks to the collaboration between Blu and Andrea Martignoni. You never know what new idea will set the script, but it usually works surprisingly well.

And just like the magazine he self-published in Germany, his well-organised website still has no details, there are no interviews with Blu and a photo shoot with the artist certainly doesn’t seem very feasible, but his fame continues to grow thanks to what he does. Just the way it should be.
